    Admission requirements:

    An applicant must have credit passes (A1-C6) in core English, core Mathematics, and either core Integrated Science or Social Studies and three elective subjects, with an overall aggregate score of Thirty-six (36) or better. In addition, candidates must satisfy the specific requirements of the relevant Faculty/School. The entry is at Level 100:

    a.Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE).

    An applicant must have credit passes (A-D) in core English, core Mathematics and either core Science or Social Studies and three elective subjects, with an overall aggregate score of Twenty-four (24) or better. In addition, candidates must satisfy the specific requirements of the relevant faculty/school. Entry is at Level 100.

    b.General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary and Advanced Levels.

    An applicant must have at least credit passes in 5 subjects (including English Language and Mathematics at the GCE Ordinary Level and at least 2 passes at the GCE Advanced Level. One of the Advanced Level passes must be grade ‘D’ or better. A pass in General Paper must also be obtained. Entry is at Level 100.

    c.Professional qualifications/Tertiary Diplomas (Entry at levels 200 and 300).

    The level of placement of professional certificate and tertiary level diploma holders will depend on the assessment of their certificates or diplomas in relation to the programme desired. All professional certificate and tertiary level diploma holders must have either G.C.E. “O” Level credit passes in English Language and Mathematics or SSSCE/WASSCE credit passes in English Language and Core Mathematics to qualify for admission. The placement level of candidates will depend on assessment of their certificates by the relevant Faculty/School or Department.



    d.Admission through Mature Students’ Entrance Examination.

    The candidate must be at least 25 years old by 31st December of the year preceding the examination. A certified copy of birth certificate is required. The date of issue of the birth certificate should not be less than five years from the date of the completion of the admission forms. The submission of fraudulent certificates is grounds for withdrawal at any point in a student’s enrolment.

    Mature Students’ Entrance Examinations consist of a General Paper for all candidates and two papers in the area(s) of specialization desired.



    e.Applicants with foreign certificates.

    Foreign applicants must have qualifications equivalent to the above to be considered for admission. Their results must also be translated into English and they should be able to read and write in English. Additionally, all foreign certificates validated by the National Accreditation Board. Applicants may also be required to pass an entrance examination/interview.

    In addition to the general admission requirements, Schools, Faculties and Departments may have special entry requirements. The academic catalogues of the Schools and Faculties must be consulted for up-to-date information.



    f.Entry requirements for Diploma programmes

    To be admitted to a Diploma programme, a candidate must satisfy the following minimum requirements besides conditions stipulated for the particular programme:

    (i) Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (SSSCE), and West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) candidates:
    -SSSCE Candidates: Credit Passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects.
    -WASSCE Candidates: Credit Passes (A1-C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, plus three (3) relevant elective subjects.

    (ii) General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level candidates:
    -Passes in three (3) GCE Advanced Level subjects (at least one of the passes should be Grade D or better).
    -Also, the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English, Mathematics, a Science subject (for non-science students) and an Art’s subject (for science students).

    (iii) Admission of Higher National Diploma (HND) candidates to first-degree programmes:
    -Applicant must have graduated with a good HND certificate (at least second class lower division). In addition, the applicant must have acquired a minimum of two (2) years post-HND qualification working experience. Other diploma qualifications from elsewhere assessed to be equivalent to HND by the National Accreditation Board (NAB) may be similarly considered.

    (iv) Advanced Business Certificate Examination (ABCE) candidates:
    -Passes in three (3) subjects (at least one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also, the applicant must have credit passes in five (5) subjects including English, Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies in the General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE)

    (v) Mature Students’ entry:
    -Mature students entry avenues to tertiary education provide opportunities for people who could not do so earlier to further their education at the tertiary level after years in the workplace.
    -The applicant must be at least twenty-five (25) years old, at the time of registration and show proof of age with birth certificate or any legitimate document.
    -An applicant must pass the mature students’ entrance examinations conducted by GIMPA in English, Mathematics and an Aptitude test

    (vi) Foreign Qualifications:
    -All foreign qualifications would be referred to the National Accreditation Board (NAB) for determination of equivalences and eligibility for admission to tertiary institutions in Ghana in accordance with the National Accreditation Board Act, 2007 [Act 744 (2(2b)].Note should be taken however that the American SAT, TOEFL etc. cannot in themselves be acceptable as entry qualifications into GIMPA.

The two electives should be science subjects. For Non science students, elective mathematics is required.

    ·West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE): Compulsory Subjects - Grade C6 or better in three (3) core subjects (English, Mathematics, Integrated Science) and Elective Subjects – Grade C6 or better in three (3) elective subjects. The two electives should be science subjects. For Non science students, elective mathematics is required.

    ·General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level: Passes in three (3) subjects including Mathematics and/or Science (at least, one of the passes should be Grade D or better). Also, the applicant must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE Ordinary Level subjects including English, Mathematics and a Science subject (for non-science students) and an Arts subject for Science students.

    ·HND holders in Computer Science from recognized institutions with at least Second Class Lower Division may be considered for admission into level 200 or 300 in their area of specialization depending on the subjects passed. The applicant must have acquired a two-year post HND qualification working experience.

    ·Diploma or other certificates from recognized institutions assessed to be equivalent to (1), (2) or (3) may be considered for admission.

    Admission requirements:
    SSSCE: Interested and qualified applicants should have aggregate 24 or better with credit passes in six subjects: (3) Core subjects including Mathematics, English and either Integrated Science or Social Studies; and any other (3) electives
    WASSCE: Interested and qualified applicants should have aggregate 36 or better with credit passes in six subjects: (3) Core subjects including Mathematics, English and either Integrated Science or Social Studies; and any other (3) electives;
    GBCE/ABCE: Holders with passes in English and Mathematic, and any other (3) electives can apply.
    GCE ‘O’ & ‘A’ Levels: Applicants must have passes in (2) subjects and a General Paper plus (5) passes at ‘O’ Level including English, Mathematics, Arts or Science subject.

    (a) WASSCE/SSSCE applicants
    Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSSCE) and WASSCE holders: Passes in three (3) core subjects with an aggregate including English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, or Social Studies plus three (3) passes in Elective Mathematics and any other two elective subjects in the relevant areas of study.

    (b) GCE
    General Certificate of Education (GCE) holders: Five (5) credit passes at GCE Ordinary Level including English and Mathematics. Passes at the GCE Advanced Level in three (3) subjects with grade D or better in the relevant field of study.

    (c) International Baccalaurette
    -International Baccalaureate (IB), IGCSE, GCSE, the American Grades 12 and 13 examinations, which are equivalent to the SSSCE and GCE.

    (d) Mature applicants
    -Must be 25 years and above at the time of submitting the application, be in gainful employment and pass an entrance examination and interview.

    (e) International students may be considered for admission if they hold qualifications equivalent to those stated above and demonstrate a competence to study using the English Language.
