    Admission requirements:
    The minimum requirement for undergraduate admission in accordance with the minimum academic standards of the NUC is the WASC, SSCE, NECO, GCE and any other approved equivalent qualification with credit passes in at least five (5) subjects.

    The subjects must include ENGLISH LANGUAGE, MATHEMATICS, BIOLOGY, CHEMISTRY AND PHYSICS. Admission will be through JAMB (UME), in English language, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Qualified candidates from the University’s School of Preliminary Studies will also be admitted. Similarly, candidates with principal pass graded (A-E) at the Advanced level in BIOLOGY and any ONE of the major subjects (Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics and Physics) may be considered for Direct Entry Admission and undertake the three-year degree programme from 200 level. Such candidates must however possess the relevant O level requirements.

    The normal duration of B.Sc. degree programme is four years (eight semesters) for students admitted into the 100-level and three years (six semesters) for students admitted into 200-level.

    The maximum period of study permissible is six years (twelve semesters) for the four-year degree programme and five years (ten semesters) for the three-year programme. Students for the Bachelor’s degree may be admitted either by:

    Passing the Joint Admission and Matriculation Examination (University Matriculation Examination, UME) or
    Direct Entry to the three-year programme in addition to the relevant O’level requirements.

    Applicants must write UTME and attain an acceptable score in the use of English and three other subjects relevant to the proposed course of study and further obtain an acceptable score at the compulsory University post UTME screening test;

    For a candidate who has attained the acceptable standard in the UTME to be registered for a course in the University, he must have passed five subjects at credit level (including English Language and Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and any of Geography, Economics, Agricultural Science and atleast a pass in Physics for B.Sc. Biology and Physics must be at credit level for those seeking admission into B.Sc. Microbiology) at not more than two sitting in the General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level Examination, West African School Certificate Examination (WASCE), National Examination Council (NECO) or National Business and Technical Examination Board (NABTEB) in subject relevant to the course of study.

    UTME candidates should normally have attained the age of 16 years.
    b) Direct Entry Candidates

    Candidates must possess:

    either passes in at least two (2) ‘A’ Level subjects or its equivalent which must include Biology, Botany or Zoology with Chemistry.
    OND/NCE in related fields. In addition candidates must also possess complementary 0’ level credit passes at not more than one sitting to be considered for admission.

    Passing the Universities Matriculation Examination (UTME) after having obtained the Senior Secondary School Certificate with five credits which must include Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics or GCE ‘O’ Level credits in five subjects with a similar proviso. A credit level in SSCE English Language, or GCE ‘O’ Level English Language will be required and at least a pass in Physics may be mandatory together with credits in five other subjects including the science subjects listed above. Selection of candidates is done by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

    Direct Entry
    Admission to the Bachelors programme may be by direct entry to the three year standard programme upon obtaining O Level SSCE or GCE with credits in four subjects including Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics in addition to A/L GCE passes in Zoology (or Biology) and Chemistry.
    An A Level pass in Chemistry or Mathematics will be an advantage but A Level pass in Biology is mandatory. Candidates are selected by JAMB.
