    LLB degree or BProc degree or relevant degree from a foreign university that allows entrance to the formal legal profession
    A weighted average of at least 65% at final-year level
    Written work on an aspect of environmental law motivating the desire to study in the field and to illustrate basic competence in working with legal texts.

    Selection Process:
    A limited number of students will be admitted to this programme based on the following criteria:
    Strong legal writing, research and reading skills, as evidenced by the applicant’s written motivation to be admitted into the programme, which ought to reference relevant scholarship and laws, as well as other relevant legal writing submitted by the applicant
    Prior knowledge of South African Environmental Law and International Environmental Law, in the form of certificate courses, and/or an undergraduate elective module in Environmental Law, and/or other postgraduate study in Environmental Law, and/or relevant work experience
    A commitment to the fulfilment of section 24 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996 and an appreciation that the environment creates the conditions in which social justice can occur.

    1 year, full-time.

    Entry Requirements:
    - Bachelor of Laws (LLB) with an average mark of 70 percent. If you have an LLB with an average mark of between 65% and 70%, you may be considered for admission.
    - However, you may be requested to submit a sample of academic writing which, in the sole discretion of the School of Law, demonstrates your ability to perform legal research and produce writing of a high standard, including the ability to think conceptually, footnote and reference properly, and communicate effectively in writing.
    - Such evidence could, for instance, consist of a legal publication or a law essay written by you during your LLB that received a high mark. This sample should not be submitted together with your application – if needed, the School will request the sample from you once your application has been marked as complete.
    - We admit only law graduates and legal professionals who have the interest, ability and time to conduct research at an advanced academic level. Entry to the programme is limited.
