    Admission requirements:

    An applicant must have credit passes (A1-C6) in core English, core Mathematics, and either core Integrated Science or Social Studies and three elective subjects, with an overall aggregate score of Thirty-six (36) or better. In addition, candidates must satisfy the specific requirements of the relevant Faculty/School. The entry is at Level 100:

    a.Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE).

    An applicant must have credit passes (A-D) in core English, core Mathematics and either core Science or Social Studies and three elective subjects, with an overall aggregate score of Twenty-four (24) or better. In addition, candidates must satisfy the specific requirements of the relevant faculty/school. Entry is at Level 100.

    b.General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary and Advanced Levels.

    An applicant must have at least credit passes in 5 subjects (including English Language and Mathematics at the GCE Ordinary Level and at least 2 passes at the GCE Advanced Level. One of the Advanced Level passes must be grade ‘D’ or better. A pass in General Paper must also be obtained. Entry is at Level 100.

    c.Professional qualifications/Tertiary Diplomas (Entry at levels 200 and 300).

    The level of placement of professional certificate and tertiary level diploma holders will depend on the assessment of their certificates or diplomas in relation to the programme desired. All professional certificate and tertiary level diploma holders must have either G.C.E. “O” Level credit passes in English Language and Mathematics or SSSCE/WASSCE credit passes in English Language and Core Mathematics to qualify for admission. The placement level of candidates will depend on assessment of their certificates by the relevant Faculty/School or Department.



    d.Admission through Mature Students’ Entrance Examination.

    The candidate must be at least 25 years old by 31st December of the year preceding the examination. A certified copy of birth certificate is required. The date of issue of the birth certificate should not be less than five years from the date of the completion of the admission forms. The submission of fraudulent certificates is grounds for withdrawal at any point in a student’s enrolment.

    Mature Students’ Entrance Examinations consist of a General Paper for all candidates and two papers in the area(s) of specialization desired.



    e.Applicants with foreign certificates.

    Foreign applicants must have qualifications equivalent to the above to be considered for admission. Their results must also be translated into English and they should be able to read and write in English. Additionally, all foreign certificates validated by the National Accreditation Board. Applicants may also be required to pass an entrance examination/interview.

    In addition to the general admission requirements, Schools, Faculties and Departments may have special entry requirements. The academic catalogues of the Schools and Faculties must be consulted for up-to-date information.



    f.Entry requirements for Diploma programmes

    To be admitted to a Diploma programme, a candidate must satisfy the following minimum requirements besides conditions stipulated for the particular programme:

    (24) or better in six(6) subjects, comprising: A - D in THREE CORE SUBJECTS- i.e. English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science and AT LEAST Credit in (3) Elective subjects in any of the following:
    Elective Mathematics II. Biology III. Physics IV. Chemistry

    (b) Applicants with WASSCE Results must obtain a minimum of six (6) Credit Passes (i.e. A1 –C6) in three (3) Core Subjects i.e. English, Mathematics and Integrated Science., and in (3) Elective subjects in any of the following:
    Elective Mathematics II. Biology III. Physics IV. Chemistry

    C) Mature applicants (evening and weekend)
    Must:
    -Be at least 25 years and above at the time of application.
    -Pass an entrance examination to be conducted by the College
    -Pass a selection interview.
    -Have a minimum of three years of relevant work experience.


    Mature applicants include:

    Diploma holders
    -Candidates with Diploma certificate in Nursing from recognized institutions with a minimum GPA of 2.50 and a pass in the licensure examination conducted by the Nursing and Midwifery Council will be admitted to third year. (NB: No Entrance Examination)

    Other candidates
    -Holders of Diploma in Nursing Education/Administration with a minimum of B+ average. (enter the programme in third year)
    State Registered Nurses (enter the programme in second year)
    -Health Assistants, Community, or Enrolled Nurse and non-nurse mature candidates (enter the programme in first year) must obtain a minimum of six (6) Credit Passes (i.e. A1 –C6) in three (3) Core subjects and three (3) Elective subjects in the following options; Science, General Arts, Agriculture Programme and Home Economic with a total aggregate of Thirty Six (36) or better.
  • Valley View University Valley View University, Adentan  
    Admission requirements:
    Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE): Compulsory Subjects - Grade D or better in three (3) core subjects, English, Mathematics and Integrated Science and Elective Subjects – Grade D or better in three (3) elective subjects. The electives could be any of the following: Science or General Arts (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and elective Mathematics), and Home Economics and Agricultural Science.

    ·West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE): Compulsory Subjects - Grade C6 or better in three (3) core subjects (Mathematics, Integrated Science, and English) and Elective Subjects – Grade C6 or better in three (3) elective subjects in Science or General Arts (Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Mathematics), Home Economics and Agricultural Science.

    ·International Students having equivalent qualifications as stated in (1) or (2) may apply for admission. Foreign Certificates must receive authentication and equivalencies from the Ghana National Accreditation Board. Foreign students must have their high school certificates/diplomas translated into English if they are not written in English. Evidence of proficiency in English language for non-English speaking countries will be needed.

    ·Diploma/Registered General Nurses/Midwives/Mental Health Nurses and applicants with SRN certificates would also be considered for a three (3) year BSN.

    NOTE

    The first year of the Nursing programme is considered primarily pre-clinical. Nursing students are admitted ONLY in August and since most courses are sequential they are usually offered once a year. It should be noted that these requirements satisfy both professional and academic entries.

    Applicants having either of the qualifications below shall be admitted:
    -GCE Holders must have five(5) O’level credit passes plus three(3) credits in “A” Level (At least one of which should be grade D or better

    -SSSCE Holders must have credit passes (A-D in three(3) core subjects Mathematics. English and either Integrated Science or Social Studies plus three(3) credit passes in Relevant Elective Subjects.

    -WASSCE Holders must have Credit passes (A1-C6) in three core subjects (Mathematics. English and either Integrated Science or Social Studies plus three(3) Credit passes (A1-C6 in Relevant Elective Subjects.

    -Holders must have ABCE Grade E in or better in three(3) subjects One of which must be at least D or better plus Grade 6 or better in five GBCE Subjects including English. Mathematics. Integrated Science and Social Studies.

    -Holders of Professional Qualifications ACCA. ICAG. CIMA. CIM. CIB part 1 and 2 holders and also apply

    -Mature students:Must be at least 25 years old. with at least 3 years working experience. Applicant must pass the University College’s Entrance Examination.
    A certified birth certificate and an evidence of working experience shall be required.

    Course entry requirements
    -All applicants MUST hold a certificate accredited by Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana
    -Applicants MUST hold certificate in Nurse-Assistant Clinical (NAC)/Health Assistant Clinical (HAC)
    -Applicants MUST have practised in their chosen fields for three (3) years or more.
    -Health Assistant Clinical (HAC) / Nurse Assistant Clinical (NAC) applicants will progress in General Nursing programme and write the Nursing and Midwifery Council (N&MC) Licensing Examination to be qualified as Registered General Nurses (RGN). The entry point is Level 200.
    Mature students who are not professional nurses at the time of admission should have the minimum requirement for admission as stated for SSSCE/WASSCE.

    -Foreign Students Requirements: Foreign students must have results slips translated into English. The results must meet the set standards for the programme. In addition, applicants must be able to speak and write fluently in English or equivalence established by the National Accreditation Board (NAB).

    TRANSFER STUDENTS
    -Candidates who have taken accredited Nursing related programmes in approved tertiary institutions may be considered for admission on advance standing. Each case will be considered on its merit.

    Admission requirements:
    Five credits at the GCE Ordinary Level including English Language and Mathematics plus three passes at the GCE Advance Level, or an aggregate score of 24 or better including Core Mathematics, Core English, and Integrated Science/ Social Studies and any three elective subjects in the WASSCE/SSSCE

    Five GCE Ordinary Level, passes including English Language and Mathematics or WASSCE/SSCE with three or more passes including English Language and Mathematics with working experience.

    They must have attained a minimum age of twenty-five (25) years at the time of submitting the application materials (photocopy of birth certificate is required). They must attend the Access Course organized by the University College, and pass the Examination which entails General Paper, English Language, and Mathematics, with an average score of 60%.

    NB: All shortlisted applicants, irrespective of the entry route, MAY be required to pass a selection interview and/or entrance examination for admission into the programme.

    Admission requirements:
    The University College admits students with West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) or Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) with at least credits in six courses (C6) in English Language, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science and three (3) elective subjects in Science, General Arts or Home Economics subjects with an overall aggregate of 24 or better for SSSCE holders and 36 or better for WASSCE holders.
