    Admission requirements:
    Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)

    Admission into Obong University shall be through Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) or Direct Entry. In addition to attaining the general required standard in UTME, candidates must satisfy the general university requirements as well as the specific School/Faculty and Programmes requirements. All admissions shall be through JAMB.
    Candidates must possess at least five (5) credit passes in relevant subjects (Government, History, Economics, Geography, Literature in English, etc) including English Language at GCE O/L, WASCE, SSCE, NECO or approved equivalents at not more than 2 sittings.
    Candidates with Teachers Grade II (TC II) with passes at credit or merit levels in conjunction with credit passes in relevant subjects at GCE, WASCE, SSCE, NECO or approved equivalents may be considered. No subject may be counted at both TC II and GCE O/L
    Candidates who wish to change their first choice to Obong University are required to:
    i). Apply for change of Institution through JAMB and

    ii). Obtain Obong University Application Form

    (v) All candidates will be required to go through the Obong University’s Screening Exercise.



    Direct Entry

    Candidates for Direct Entry admission must possess any of the following qualifications:

    Two (2) passes at GCE A/L, HSC, IJMB, JUPEB or approved equivalents in relevant subjects and at least credit passes in three (3) other subjects, including English Language at GCE (O/L), WASCE, SSCE, NECO or approved equivalents at not more than two sittings
    Three (3) passes at GCE A/L, HSC, IJMB, JUPEB or approved equivalents in relevant subjects and at least credit passes in two (2) other subjects including English Language at GCE (O/L), WASCE, SSCE, NECO or approved equivalents at not more than two sittings.
    Two (2) passes at merit level or above in two (2) recognized NCE, OND, HND subjects or approved equivalents and at least 3 credit passes in other subjects including English Language at GCE O/L, WASCE, SSCE, NECO or approved equivalents at not more than two sittings.
    Two “A” level passes including Government or History.
    Diploma in Public Administration and Political Science, Administration Management, Public/ Local Government Administration, Social Work, Community Development, Industrial and Labour Relations.

    Admission requirements:
    Admission into the B.Sc. Sociology Programme at Taraba State University
    is in two categories; Direct Entry, University and Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

    Direct Entry: Applicants for admission into three year degree programme in Sociology should possess Diploma (at least lower credit) or NCE (at least a merit pass) in relevant field (i.e. social science or arts oriented courses). In addition the candidate must have five relevant Credits at “O” level which must include English Language, Mathematics and Government/History and any two subjects from Arts or Social Sciences.

    UME: Applicants for admission into four year Degree Programme in Sociology should posses SSCE/GCE/NECO/Grade II with at least five credits including English Language, Mathematics and Government/History and any two subjects from Arts or Social Sciences. However, applicants must possess the required UTME cut off points as may be fixed by the relevant authority.
  • Benue State University, Makurdi  
    Entry requirements:
    1. Candidates for the B.SC Sociology degree are required to take and pass a minimum of 36 credits each academic year make up of two semesters. A credit unit is defined as one contact hour per week per semester.
    2. Candidates are required to take and pass the prescribed University-Wide General Studies Courses (GST) which are all credit-earning.
    3. Candidates are also required to earn a minimum of ten and maximum of fifteen credits from Electives outside the department.
    4. The total minimum number of credits required for graduation is 144 for UME students, and 108 for Direct Entry students which must be earned from courses offered within the department, recommended non-departmental courses and University-Wide General Studies Courses. Transfer students from recognized Universities are accepted on merit. Students with any other qualifications acceptable to the University Senate may also be admitted.

    Admission requirements:
    UME Entry:
    Candidates for the 4-year UME Programme must have obtained five Credit passes including English at the SSCE, NECO, GCE or their equivalents at not more than two sittings. Credit Level pass is also required in Economics, Geography or Government. An acceptable UME score as well as minimum of Pass level grade in Mathematics are mandatory.

    Direct Entry:
    Candidates for the 3-year Direct Entry Programme shall possess five Credit passes in the SSCE, GCE, NECO or equivalents of which at least two shall be at the Advanced Level, or four Credit passes of which at least three shall be at the Advanced Level provided that such passes are not counted at both Levels of examinations. For emphasis Credit passes in English Language and any of Economics, Geography or Government are compulsory. Grade level for Mathematics cannot be lower than Pass.
  • Sokoto State University, Sokoto  
    Admission Requirement

    UTME: Candidates who wish to study sociology must have obtained a credit in mathematics and English Language plus credit pass in either economics, geography or government and other two subjects at the SSC, NECO, GSCE, or their equivalent not more than two sittings and acceptable UTME score is required.

    Direct Entry

    Candidates for Direct Entry admission shall possess five credits in GCE, SSCE, NECO or their equivalents, and at least two passes at Advanced Level. For emphasis, credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, History or Government and any other two subjects are required. Diploma in Criminology, Diploma in Mass communication, and Diploma in social Development, IJMBE and other related Diploma is required. Upper credit is also required, but lower credit may also be recommended.

    Admission requirements:
    UTME: Candidates who wish to be admitted into the Department of Sociology must have obtained credit passes in Mathematics and English Language plus credit passes in either Economics, Geography or Government and other two subjects at the SSCE, NECO, GCE or their equivalent not in more than two sittings. An acceptable UTME score is required.

    DIRECT ENTRY: Candidates for Direct Entry admission shall possess five credit passes in the SSCE, NECO, GCE or equivalents of which at least two shall be at advanced level, or four credits passes of which at least three shall be at advanced level provided that such passes are not counted at both the examinations. For emphasis credit passes in English Language, Mathematics and any of Economic, Geography or Government at the O’ Level is compulsory.
  • Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, Birnin Kebbi  
    Admission requirements:
    Candidates who wish to study Sociology must have obtained a credit in Mathematics and English Language plus credit pass in either Economics, Geography or Government and other two subjects at the SSCE, NECO, GCE, or their equivalent not more than two sitting, An acceptable U.M.E. score is required.

    Direct Entry
    Candidates for Direct Entry admission shall possess five Credits passes in the SSCE, NECO, GCE or equivalents of which at least two shall be at advanced level, or four credits passes of which at least three shall be at advanced lavel provided that such passes are mot counted at both levels of the examinations, For emphasis credit passes in English Language, Mathematics and any of Economics, Geography or Government is compulsory.

    Admission requirements:
    Candidates who wish to be considered for Direct Entry admission to pursue a three year degree programme are advised to contact the Department for necessary guidance on admission requirements.

    Candidates must have credit passes in at least two Arts or Social Science subjects at HSC or GCE A’ Level

    Minimum of Lower Credit in National Diploma in Social Work or Community Development or other related courses.

    NCE with minimum of a Merit pass in any Social Science subject.

    University Diploma with a minimum of Lower Credit in Social Work or Community Development, Industrial and Labour Relations and other University Diploma related to the course of study.
  • Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Minna  
    Minimum entry requirement:
    1. UTME 100 Level:
    -Apart from meeting the University cut-of point in the UTME, a candidate registering for B.Sc. Sociology must possess five ‘o’ level credits including Mathematics and English:
    -A Credit in English
    -A Credit in Mathematics
    -A Credit in either History or Government
    -Two Credits in any other Social Science-oriented subjects (e.g. Economics. Geography, Commerce, Agricultural Science, etc.)

    2. Direct Entry
    -To be admitted to read Sociology at the 200 level, a candidate must meet: The ‘O’ level requirements stipulated above;
    -Relevant IJMB (or ‘A’ level) qualifications which must include Sociology
  • Lead City University, Ibadan  
    Admission Requirements (JAMB/Direct Entry):
    The minimum entry requirement for admission into Lead Ciity University is GCE O/L, SSCE/NABTEB/ NECO or equivalent credit level pass in five(5) subjects, including English Language, and Mathematics, obtained at not more than two sittings. Those with additional (Direct Entry) qualification such as University Diploma, NCE, IJMB, OND, GCE 'A' Level or equivalent professional qualification etc are to proceed from part II. However, candidates awaiting result may apply provided evidence of results would be available before resumption.
